Michael currently serves as Board Member of the Supervisory Board of the Lufthansa Group.

He was President and CEO of Flughafen München GmbH, Munich Airport's operating company, from September 2002 until December 2019. He was also made President of the German Airports Association (ADV) in 2013. Under the leadership of Dr. Michael Kerkloh, Munich Airport became one of the most successful airports in Europe and was the continent’s first five-star airport.

Alongside the presidency of the German Airport Working Group ADV, Dr. Michael Kerkloh is a member of the governing bodies of a number of important industry organizations including the executive committee of BDL, the German Aviation Industry Association, and board of Airport Council International (ACI), the European umbrella organization for international airports, where he is President. In this role he represents ACI Europe on the World Governing Board of ACI World.
